WHEREAS, Rashomon is an innovative Peking opera based on a famous Japanese drama. Rashomon is a symbol of diversity and the universal theme that “truth is relative,” defying cultural
and temporal differences. The show builds cross-cultural understanding with its lessons of tolerance, and
WHEREAS, the nonprofit organization Dimension Performing Arts, Inc. is a major presenter of Chinese performing arts in the South San Francisco Bay Area. Created in 1996, Dimenision Performing
Arts has been promoting inter-cultural understanding through the arts, and
WHEREAS, Rashomon will be performed by the Chinese Opera Troupe of the National Taiwan Junior College of Traditional Performing Arts. The National Taiwan Junior College has consistently
demonstrated its ability to turn out professional, highly trained performers. The skill and grace of these young people serve as an inspiration to all who care about and are influenced
by the arts.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Mayor Richard Lowenthal, and the Cupertino City Council, do hereby commend and recognize the
Chinese Opera Troupe of the National Taiwan Junior College of Traditional Performing Arts
on occasion of the Cupertino performance of Rashomon, and that the performance will be a beautiful tribute to all those who have worked so hard to make it happen
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Wednesday, February Twenty-Seven, Two Thousand and Two.
