WHEREAS, The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is the nation's oldest, largest, and strongest civil rights organization. Its half-million adult and youth
members are dedicated advocates for civil rights in their communities; and
WHEREAS, this year, the NAACP is celebrating its 93rd year since its founding and its 50th year in Santa Clara Valley. The NAACP and continues the fight begun upon its founding in February
1909, the 100th anniversary of President Abraham Lincoln's birthday; and
WHEREAS, from the eastern seaboard to Silicon Valley, the NAACP is a strong voice and dedicated protector for Americans of color ensuring political, educational, social, and economic
equality for our nation's minority citizens.
NOW, therefore, I, Mayor Richard Lowenthal, and the Cupertino City Council, do hereby recognize and commend
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People
in Santa Clara County, and encourage all residents of Cupertino to join in recognizing the important role the NAACP plays in ensuring equality in our community.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this 13th day of April, 2002.
