WHEREAS, on Monday, April 1, Two Thousand and Two, the City of Cupertino wishes to recognize Ann Woo, on occasion of her selection as a Woman of Achievement at the 2002 Women's Fund
banquet in the category of Arts, and
WHEREAS, Ann Woo emigrated from Hong Kong and received her U.S. citizenship in 1972. She received her BSEE from UC Berkeley and MSEE from San Jose State University and worked as an electronic
engineer for three decades. She holds nine patents in her field, and
WHEREAS, she has been interested in dance since her childhood in San Francisco and has pursued it as an avocation in spite of many obstacles. Finally, it became a co-vocation when she
founded the Chinese Performing Artists of America (CPAA) in 1991. In 1996 she left electronics to devote herself to her art. As Executive Director of CPAA, she has successfully led
the company bringing recognition for its artistry and promotion of cultural awareness, and
WHEREAS, Ann has promoted Chinese cultural traditions as exemplified in dance and also promoted greater awareness of all people for what the Chinese culture has contributed to civilization.
Her particular emphasis has always been children. Her community involvement includes the 1995 Cupertino Chinese New Year Celebration, Cupertino Fourth of July Celebrations in 1996 and
1997, and the planning for Cupertino's Lunar Unity New Year's Parade in 2003, and
WHEREAS, she is an active member of Quota International of Cupertino. Other awards and honors include recognition as 1999 Citizen of Achievement by the Sunnyvale-Cupertino Branch of
the American Association of University Women.
NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that Mayor Richard Lowenthal, and the City Council of Cupertino, do hereby commend and recognize
Ann Woo
for creating a stronger community for the people and city of Cupertino.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Friday, March Eight, Two Thousand and Two.
