HomeMy WebLinkAbout047 Senior Center 25th Proclamation - Word - 04.19.2005PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, on Wednesday, April Twentieth, Two Thousand and Five, the Advisory Council at the Cupertino Senior Center is hosting a celebration to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the opening of the senior center in Cupertino; and, WHEREAS, the first senior program in 1978 was called "The Live Long and Like It Club" and was in the Little Blue House on the corner of Stevens Creek Blvd. and Mary Avenue; and, WHEREAS, in 1980, the City of Cupertino decided to build a new senior center and it was built in the same location as the Little Blue House. WHEREAS, by the year 2000, the membership had outgrown the facilities again and the original center was demolished and the seniors moved during construction into the Quinlan Community Center for a year while the new expanded center was being built; and, WHEREAS, seniors had a Grand Open House on March 1, 2001, to celebrate and dedicate the newest senior center; and, WHEREAS, The membership has steadily grown with new activities, programs, health clinics, exercise classes and trips with help from the Senior Center Staff, Volunteers, Fremont Adult Education and De Anza College instructors. NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that I, Mayor Patrick Kwok, and the Cupertino City Council, do hereby commend and recognize the Cupertino Senior Center on the occasion of its twenty-fifth anniversary in recognition of the exemplary service of the many individuals and organizations who, through their service, have created a better and stronger community for the people of Cupertino. IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Wednesday, April Twentieth, Two Thousand and Five. ________________________ Patrick S.
