HomeMy WebLinkAbout047 Walk to School Proclamation - Word - 10.16.2006PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, “Walk and Bike to School Day” was held last spring under the leadership and guidance of the Cupertino Bicycle and Pedestrian Commission; and, WHEREAS, this program, taking place across California, the United States and the world, focuses on the benefits of walking and bicycling to school rather than driving, creating cleaner, safer and environmentally healthier school routes for children; and WHEREAS, this effort affords parents the opportunity to spend more time with their children, reduces car use and traffic hazards, promotes physical activity and contributes to a safer community; and, WHEREAS, walking and biking to school represent a fundamentally important community priority that address the physical and environmental health of our community by reducing both traffic and pollution. NOW, therefore, the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby recognize and honor the Bicycle Pedestrian Commission and congratulate them on their leadership in promoting this important event for the benefit of our entire community. IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Seventeenth day of October 2006. __________________________________ Richard Lowenthal, Mayor
