HomeMy WebLinkAbout047 Silicon Valley Reads Proclamation - Word - 03.01.2006PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the mission of Silicon Valley Reads is to promote reading and literacy and an appreciation for good literature while building community; and WHEREAS, Silicon Valley is known worldwide for its achievements in innovative thinking and the exploration of ideas; and WHEREAS, great books spark provocative discussions that can lead to a valuable exchange of perspectives, life experiences and understanding among widely-diverse readers; and WHEREAS, the City of Cupertino is committed to education, challenging thought, open dialogue and community-building activities. NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the mayor and city council of the city of Cupertino do hereby recognize and support Silicon Valley Reads in Cupertino and calls upon the residents of Cupertino to read the 2006 Silicon Valley Reads books, “When The Emperor Was Divine” by Julie Otsuka and “The Souvenir: A Daughter Discovers Her Father’s War” by Louise Steinman, and to discuss the relevant themes of these books with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors and others in our community. IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this 27th day of February 2006. ________________________ Mayor
