HomeMy WebLinkAbout047 Flag Day Proclamation - Word - 06.05.2006PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, for more than two centuries, the flag of the United States has been a symbol of hope and pride; and, WHEREAS, the flag has inspired our citizens during times of conflict and during Flag Day we reflect on this enduring symbol of freedom; and, WHEREAS, on June 14, 1777, the Second Continental Congress passed a resolution stating that "the flag of the United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field;” and, WHEREAS, on this Flag Day, we recall the rich history of Old Glory, and we remember our duty to carry our heritage of freedom into the future. NOW, therefore, the Mayor and City Council of the city of Cupertino do hereby do hereby proclaim June 14, 2005, as Flag Day in Cupertino, and urge all residents to observe Flag Day by flying the Stars and Stripes from their homes and other suitable places. IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this 6th day of June 2006. ________________________ Mayor
