WHEREAS, on Tuesday, December Fourth, Two Thousand and Seven, the City of Cupertino wishes to recognize Touch the Soul of Korea, a performance of Korean dance, music and pansori; and
WHEREAS, pansori is a genre of operatic narrative performed by a vocalist with drum accompaniment; and
WHEREAS, this popular tradition, characterized by expressive singing, stylized speech, a repertory of narratives and gesture, embraces both elite and folk culture; and
WHEREAS, the term pansori is derived from the Korean words pan, meaning “a place where many people gather,” and sori meaning “sound” or “song”; and
WHEREAS, pansori was designated as the Important Intangible Cultural Heritage by Korean government.
NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby recognize the
Touch the Soul of Korea
performance to showcase the great tradition of Korean dance, music and pansori.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Tuesday, December Fourth, Two Thousand and Seven.
