WHEREAS, Palestinians trace their roots back to the Canaanites, who inhabited the land west of the Jordan River and the Dead Sea; and
WHEREAS, Palestinians primarily speak Arabic and profess either a Christian or Muslim faith; and
WHEREAS, Palestinian culture is presented through books, poetry, music, proverbs, and handicrafts made with cross-stitch embroidery patterns that honor a rich cultural legacy; and
WHEREAS, Palestinians have embraced for over 2,000 years core values such as love of family, commitment to education, hospitality, and reverence for land, and they now share these values
with the residents of Cupertino.
NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of the City of Cupertino do hereby recognize, May 15, 2007, as
PALESTINIAN CULTURAL DAY
a day that honors the local Palestinian community and its contributions to Cupertino’s civic life as well as the historical and cultural contributions of Palestinians throughout the
world.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Tuesday, May 15, Two Thousand and Seven.
