HomeMy WebLinkAbout047 Kung Fu 7-2-2001 Proclamtion - Word - 02.14.2007PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the Cupertino Kung Fu Club has traveled to national and international competitions since 1992; and, WHEREAS, in 2001 Dr. Chi-hsiu D. Weng developed Cardio Tai-chi, a combination of aerobic exercise and traditional Tai-chi movements, and established the World Cardio Tai-chi Association to train and promote this discipline; and,   WHEREAS, members of Cupertino Kung Fu Club captured First Place in Cardio Tai-chi Group Competition in the 2006, 3rd Tai-chi for Fitness International Wushu Championships held at San Jose State University; and, WHEREAS, members of the Cupertino Kung Fu Club participated in the 2006 1st World Cup Tai-chi-chuan Championships, presided over by Madam Lu Hsiu-lien, Vice President of Taipei, ROC, and held in the Taipei Arena, Taiwan, ROC, with athletes from twenty-eight countries; and, WHEREAS, the Cupertino Kung Fu Club members who formed the U.S. competition teams were: Carl Patience (coach), Yu-Chen Yeh, Sharon Needham, Paula Chang, Mindy Yu, Tatiana Perfilov, David Katsumoto, and the President of World Cardio Tai-chi Association, Dr. Chi-hsiu D Weng, who was the leader of the team. NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of the city of Cupertino, do hereby commend and recognize the Cupertino Kung Fu Club for the development of the Cardio Tai-chi and Tai-chi programs in the Cupertino Kung Fu Club and for the successful training and competition activities of the club members and for its accomplishments on behalf of the city and residents of Cupertino. IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Tuesday, February 20, Two Thousand and Seven. ________________________ Kris Wang, Mayor
