WHEREAS, the city of Cupertino wishes to recognize Don Allen, on the occasion of his retirement, for his exceptional public service to the people, families and community of Cupertino;
and
WHEREAS, Don has founded many entrepreneurial efforts in our community including founder and president of Cupertino National Bank, an important local banking alternative to the many
start-ups and innovative businesses in our community; and
WHEREAS, Don has served this community in innumerable ways including through Cupertino Rotary where he was president in 2000 and 2001. He has traveled to Accra, Ghana in 2000 for Polio
Eradication National Immunization Day, and traveled to Texcoco, Mexico in 2001 with Cupertino Rotary to distribute 240 wheelchairs; and
WHEREAS, other areas that have benefited from Don’s leadership include the Cupertino Educational Endowment Foundation, which he co-founded and has grown to become an essential source
of funding for our award-winning elementary and middle schools; he co-founded the Cupertino Ministerial Association; he is a past president of the Foothill-DeAnza College Foundation
and a past director of the Euphrat Gallery at DeAnza College; and
WHEREAS, Don has been involved in efforts that have profoundly effected the quality of life in Cupertino including as fundraising co-chair for Vista Village, a collaborative effort that
created 24 affordable housing units operated by Cupertino Community Services; as president of the Cupertino Chamber of Commerce; as a member of the city of Cupertino General Plan Review
Committee in 1980 and 1990; and as co-founder of the Citizens of Cupertino Cross Cultural Consortium.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Mayor Kris Wang, and the Cupertino City Council, do hereby commend and recognize
Don Allen
for his leadership, perseverance, and significant contributions to the people and city of Cupertino as demonstrated by his many years of service in countless charitable projects that
have directly benefited the families of Cupertino.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Thursday, January 25, 2007.
