PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, on Saturday, December Twenty-Ninth, Two Thousand and Seven, the City of Cupertino wishes to recognize the 9th Pan Pacific Abacus and Mental Arithmetic Association (PAMA) Competition;
and
WHEREAS, the purpose of the competition is to allow for the observation of mental math skills from all countries, to promote abacus and mental calculation education, and to improve friendships
among participants from around the world; and
WHEREAS, PAMA was founded in August 1999 and consists of ten countries: ROC (Taiwan), Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Canada, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Singapore, and the USA.
NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby recognize the
9th Pan Pacific Abacus and Mental Arithmetic Competition
a competition that was created to encourage the development of mathematical skills and to enhance intelligence.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Saturday, December Twenty-Ninth, Two Thousand and Seven.
