WHEREAS, on Tuesday, October Ninth, Two Thousand and Seven, the City of Cupertino wishes to recognize the 96th National Day of the Republic of China, known as Double Tenth National Day;
and
WHEREAS, this important event is a celebration of independence from the Manchu Dynasty; and
WHEREAS, National Day commemorates the successful revolution led by Dr. Sun Yat-Sen, a physician, following 10 prior attempts at revolution, beginning in 1898; and
WHEREAS, this final, successful revolution in October of 1911 ended 4,000 years of monarchical rule in China and resulted in the founding of the first democratic republic of Asia--the
Republic of China.
NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby proclaim the 10th day of October 2007 to be
Double Tenth National Day
and urge all citizens of Cupertino to be aware of and appreciative of the history of the Republic of China in celebration of this significant event, and urge people of Chinese heritage
to share their pride of community in Cupertino.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Tuesday, October Ninth, Two Thousand and Seven.
