WHEREAS, on Tuesday, April First, Two Thousand and Eight, the City of Cupertino wishes to recognize Vanessa Ing, the First Place winner in the high school category for The Health Trust
Essay Contest; and
WHEREAS, The Health Trust is a nonprofit organization that was founded in 1996 as a community benefit foundation; and
WHEREAS, The Health Trust Essay Contest challenged teens to describe how young people can help make Silicon Valley the healthiest region in America; and
WHEREAS, The Health Trust received 269 entries from students in local middle and high schools; and
WHEREAS, Vanessa’s essay was chosen, because it was extremely well written, incorporating strong imagery and poetic phrases; and
WHEREAS, she also presented a very holistic vision of what it means to be a healthy community, incorporating concepts of family, community, and environmental responsibility; and
WHEREAS, Vanessa also recognized that all youth, even youth that may not consider themselves leaders can improve the health of their community through simple acts such as volunteering
and modeling positive behaviors.
NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby commend and recognize
Vanessa Ing
for being concerned about the health of the community and finding solutions so that more people can enjoy a healthier life.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Tuesday, April First, Two Thousand and Eight.
