WHEREAS, on Tuesday, June Seventeenth, Two Thousand and Eight, the City of Cupertino wishes to recognize United States Army Week; and
WHEREAS, the United States Army was established by the First Continental Congress on the 14th day of June, 1775; and
WHEREAS, the United States Army exists to defend the freedom of our citizens and our nation’s security interests; and
WHEREAS, many citizens of Cupertino have served their nation and given the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our freedoms, as members of the United States Army; and
WHEREAS, it is proper to recognize the United States Army annually on its birthday, and to thank those who have served and those who are presently serving.
NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby declare June 9 through June 17, 2008, as
United States Army Week
in Cupertino and exhort all citizens to join in this salute to express our gratitude to those who have served and those who are now serving to protect our nation and its freedoms.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Tuesday, June Seventeenth, Two Thousand and Eight.
