WHEREAS, on Sunday, October Fifth, Two Thousand and Eight, the City of Cupertino wishes to recognize the first Soka Gakkai International USA (SGI-USA) Silicon Valley Peace and Culture
Festival; and
WHEREAS, SGI is a culturally diverse and worldwide Buddhist association that promotes community-based activities that encourage the values of peace, culture and education; and
WHEREAS, more than two thousand members of the SGI-Silicon Valley and their friends will celebrate SGI’s global movement of Buddhist humanism; and
WHEREAS, the event includes the participation of local residents, from teachers and firefighters to high-tech executives, whose performances celebrate diversity, dialogue and the cultural
richness of the community; and
WHEREAS, the festival also commemorates the 48th anniversary of the SGI’s third and current president, Daisaku Ikeda’s, first visit to North America, including the San Francisco Bay
Area, and his consistent and broad-reaching travels since, to bring the values of Buddhist humanism around the world.
NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby recognize the
SGI-USA Silicon Valley Peace and Culture Festival
for their outstanding work, dedication, and creating a stronger community for people in the Silicon Valley.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Sunday, October Fifth, Two Thousand and Eight.
