WHEREAS, on Monday, June Second, Two Thousand and Eight, the City of Cupertino wishes to recognize Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Pride Month; and
WHEREAS, there are an estimated 150,000 to 200,000 Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) people who live in Santa Clara County; and
WHEREAS, there is a moral obligation of community and elected leaders to help people celebrate the strength of their diversity every step of the way; and
WHEREAS, intolerance must be overcome with unconditional acceptance of all people including all LGBT people; and
WHEREAS, the Bay Area Municipal Elections Committee (BAYMEC) is a LGBT action group in the South Bay advocating for the civil rights of LGBT people since 1984.
NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby proclaim the month of June as
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month
and encourage the community to be more aware of one of the most prominent civil rights issues of our time.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Monday, June Second, Two Thousand and Eight.
