WHEREAS, on Thursday, January Thirty-First, Two Thousand and Eight, the City of Cupertino wishes to recognize Hepatitis B Awareness Week in Cupertino; and
WHEREAS, the hepatitis B virus (HBV) attacks the liver and can cause one in four people to die of liver cancer if not properly monitored and treated; and
WHEREAS, hepatitis B is a worldwide epidemic that is killing one million people every year; and
WHEREAS, liver cancer is the single greatest health disparity between Asian Americans and Caucasians; and
WHEREAS, club Monta Vista Asian Health Awareness will team up with several other organizations to implement outreach sessions throughout Cupertino.
NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby declare the week of March 16 through 22, 2008 as
Hepatitis B Awareness Week
within the city of Cupertino and encourage residents to support programs to promote awareness and treatment of the disease in Cupertino and throughout Northern California.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Thursday, January Thirty-First, Two Thousand and Eight.
