WHEREAS, on Tuesday, June Seventeenth, Two Thousand and Eight, the City of Cupertino wishes to recognize Cupertino Amateur Radio Emergency Service (CARES) on their 20th anniversary;
and
WHEREAS, the City of Cupertino relies heavily on volunteers for disaster response activities; and
WHEREAS, Cupertino Amateur Radio Emergency Service (CARES) is a vital component of our volunteer Citizen Corps organization, providing emergency communications when phones are overwhelmed;
and
WHEREAS, CARES members spend many hours developing plans and preparing their own equipment to ensure their reliability under any circumstances; and
WHEREAS, the CARES organization and its emergency plans have become a model for other amateur radio groups around the country; and
WHEREAS, CARES also regularly provides communications support at community events; and
WHEREAS, the seventy-five plus members of the organization include a diverse group of men, women and teens.
NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby commend and recognize
CARES
and congratulate them for their longevity and dedicated volunteer service and thank them for their 20 years of service to Cupertino.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Tuesday, June Seventeenth, Two Thousand and Eight.
