WHEREAS, on Tuesday, April Fifteenth, Two Thousand and Eight, the City of Cupertino wishes to recognize the Volunteer Center of Silicon Valley; and
WHEREAS, April is designated National Volunteer Month and more than 100 million volunteers working in their communities already contribute their time and talents daily to make a real
difference in the lives of others; and
WHEREAS, this year marks the 35th annual celebration of International Volunteer Week, created in 1973 to recognize the efforts of dedicated community volunteers; and
WHEREAS, the Volunteer Center of Silicon Valley is the City of Cupertino’s prime resource for connecting volunteers with community needs and promoting volunteer service; and
WHEREAS, the Volunteer Center of Silicon Valley serves as the community clearinghouse for connecting the volunteers who feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, care for the sick and dying,
and serve the arts; and
WHEREAS, the Volunteer Center of Silicon Valley serves as the community manager of spontaneous volunteers in all disaster and the coordinator of Collaborating Agencies Disaster Relief
Effort (CADRE) network.
NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby commend and recognize the
Volunteer Center of Silicon Valley
for their outstanding work, dedication, and making our local community a better place to live.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Tuesday, April Fifteenth, Two Thousand and Eight.
