WHEREAS, on Saturday, March Fourteenth, Two Thousand and Nine, the City of Cupertino wishes to recognize the South Asian Heart Center’s (SAHC) inaugural benefit gala: Scarlet Night-“An
Affair of the Heart”; and
WHEREAS, SAHC is the first major non-profit organization to respond to the growing epidemic of Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) among people of South Asian origin, who are at a four-fold
higher risk of heart disease; and
WHEREAS, set up in Two Thousand and Six, SAHC, an initiative of El Camino Hospital, offers a screening program based on assessment, identification, and management to address the unmet
clinical need for risk factors and lifestyle modifications, educating participants and physicians to help stem this epidemic; and
WHEREAS, SAHC aims to be a global center of excellence by helping stem the worldwide heart disease epidemic through its strategic initiatives of research, education, outreach, and prevention,
and forging a commitment and partnership with the community members, healthcare professionals, corporations and government to receive their support; and
WHEREAS, on March Fourteenth, Two Thousand Nine, SAHC is having its inaugural benefit gala: Scarlet Night-“An affair of the Heart“, at the Indian Community Center in Milpitas, which
will be a fundraising banquet and fun-filled event to celebrate the resolve and enthusiasm of the South Asian Community in their quest for living healthy and also raising funds to support
the center’s ongoing initiative programs and services.
NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby recognize SAHC’s endeavor and commitment to better health and its inaugural benefit gala
Scarlet Night: “An Affair of the Heart”
and encourage all residents to support and participate in this inaugural event, which will help raise awareness and significantly contribute to the health of our community.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Saturday, March Fourteenth, Two Thousand and Nine.
