HomeMy WebLinkAbout047 Paul Hau Proclamation - Word - 03.09.2009PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, on Wednesday, March Eleventh, Two Thousand and Nine, the City of Cupertino wishes to recognize Paul Pei-Jen Hau; and WHEREAS, Paul is a world renowned painter, with a museum named after him in Kunshan, eastern China, and is an honored artist in the inaugural exhibition, Looking Back, Looking Ahead, at the new Euphrat Museum of Art at De Anza College in Cupertino; and WHEREAS, his bold watercolor and ink paintings bridge cultures of East and West, with references that range from the Ming dynasty to the vanguard of Western abstraction; and WHEREAS, at ninety-two years of age, Paul continues to contribute to the vitality of the academic and professional arts community in Cupertino and surrounding Silicon Valley; and WHEREAS, he contributed to the Euphrat inaugural exhibition and related outreach programs for the general public; and WHEREAS, born in Nineteen Seventeen in Liaoning Province, Paul studied in both China and Japan and moved to California in Nineteen Fifty-Six, and WHEREAS, he has published many painting books, three novels, a history of sociology, a book on Chinese art, and has taught locally for over fifty years; and WHEREAS, Paul’s career is monumental and he is held in high esteem for the unique style, spirit, and poetry in everything he does, especially in his art and teachings. NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby commend and recognize Paul Pei-Jen Hau for his outstanding service and contributions to the Euphrat Museum of Art at De Anza College and for creating a stronger community for the citizens of Cupertino.
