WHEREAS, on Tuesday, April Seventh, Two Thousand and Nine, the City of Cupertino wishes to recognize Naomi Nakano-Matsumoto; and
WHEREAS, State Senator Joe Simitian (D-Palo Alto) has selected Naomi Nakano-Matsumoto as the 11th State Senate District's Woman of the Year; and
WHEREAS, the Woman of the Year award is given annually by members of the California state legislature to outstanding women who live or work in their districts; and
WHEREAS, she has worked as a social worker for over twenty-seven years in various capacities, fifteen of which have focused on executive management in the local nonprofit community;
and
WHEREAS, Naomi joined West Valley Community Services (formerly Cupertino Community Services) in October Two Thousand and Five as the Executive Director; and
WHEREAS, Naomi has extensive experience in diversity/multicultural sensitivity issues, chemical dependence, and in the development, implementation and coordination of prevention, intervention
and treatment programs; and
WHEREAS, she has been an active volunteer and/or board member of several community organizations; and
WHEREAS, Naomi is also an active volunteer at her children’s schools, serving on the Cumberland Elementary School Site Council and chairing several PTA committees; and
WHEREAS, she is active on several committees within her temple, is a proud member of the Rotary Club of Cupertino, and is a director in Midori Kai, a Japanese American professional women’s
organization.
NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby commend and recognize
Naomi Nakano-Matsumoto
for her outstanding service, dedication, and for creating a stronger community for the citizens of Cupertino.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Tuesday, April Seventh, Two Thousand and Nine.
