WHEREAS, on Thursday, March Eighteenth, Two Thousand and Ten, the City of Cupertino
wishes to recognize "Their Future Is Now!", a campaign for the purpose of seeking donated
funds for the public education programs offered through the Cupertino Union School
District (CUSD); and
WHEREAS, Cupertino Educational Endowment Foundation (CEEF), community and CUSD
leaders are partnering in a collaborative effort to raise funds to offset the devastating state
budget cuts that threaten to undermine the quality of education in Cupertino schools; and
WHEREAS, the CUSD has sustained devastating funding cuts from the State of California,
resulting in a net budget shortfall of seven point three million for the upcoming Two
Thousand and Ten to Two Thousand and Eleven academic year and on -going; and
WHEREAS, these funding cuts will lead to the loss of up to one hundred and fifteen teachers
across all grade levels, Kindergarten through eighth, in our district and impact the core
instruction of nearly eighteen thousand students served; and
WHEREAS, a cut of this magnitude is unseen in our district for the last twenty-five years,
and will significantly impact the quality of education in our district; and
WHEREAS, the quality of education in our district is directly tied to the strength of our
community and its foundation for growth and innovation.
NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby
recognize
"Their Future Is Now!"
and support the advocacy efforts of the parent community, the CEEF, and the CUSD through
the joint campaign "Their Future Is Now!" to seek private donations within the community to
fund our public education programs and retain educational excellence in our district.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of
Cupertino to be affixed this Thursday, March Eighteenth, Two Thousand andjpn.
