HomeMy WebLinkAbout047 Wildfire Awareness Week Proclamation - Word - 05.03.2010PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, on Tuesday, May Fourth, Two Thousand and Ten, the City of Cupertino wishes to recognize Wildfire Awareness Week in Cupertino; and WHEREAS, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and CAL FIRE have named May Second through Eighth as Wildfire Awareness Week this year; and WHEREAS, fire departments and fire safe councils throughout the state of California are educating the public about the need to create Defensible Space and practice fire safety in our parks and wildland areas; and WHEREAS, the Santa Clara County FireSafe Council is a non-profit organization composed of individuals and public and private sector organizations that share a common, vested interest in preventing and reducing losses from wildfires; and WHEREAS, Santa Clara County is not immune to the devastating effects of wildfires and with summer and Wildfire Season around the corner, residents should begin planning how to create and maintain Defensible Space and consider ways to improve their community’s fire safety. NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby declare the week of May Second through Eighth, Two Thousand and Ten as Wildfire Awareness Week in Cupertino and urge all citizens to join in supporting the Santa Clara County FireSafe Council in their mission to mobilize the people of Santa Clara County to protect their homes, communities and environment from wildfires. IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Tuesday, May Fourth, Two Thousand and Ten. ________________________ Kris Wang, Mayor
