WHEREAS, on Thursday, May Twenty-Seventh, Two Thousand and Ten, the City of Cupertino wishes to recognize The Faith in Action Board; and
WHEREAS, The Faith in Action Board is one of the winners for the Cupertino Recognizes Extra Steps Taken (CREST) Award, which recognizes individuals and groups who have made outstanding
contributions to the City of Cupertino; and
WHEREAS, The Faith in Action Board has been in existence for eighteen years and is a collaboration of eleven churches and one synagogue that host the West Valley Community Service Rotating
Shelter; and
WHEREAS, the shelter rotates from church to church on a monthly basis providing shelter, food and case management to approximately one hundred homeless men annually; and
WHEREAS, in Two Thousand and Nine, the Rotating Shelter provided sixteen thousand two hundred meals, five thousand four hundred nightly beds, for over one hundred homeless men and was
supported by over three thousand two hundred eighty-five volunteer hours; and
WHEREAS, through financial and volunteer support, The Faith in Action Board raised an estimated one hundred fifty thousand dollars to run the Rotating Shelter Program in Two Thousand
and Nine; and
WHEREAS, these committed volunteers, lead by the Board Chair Mary Ellen Hennig, are incredible advocates for the local homeless population and animatedly lobby at their respective churches
and throughout the community about the importance of the Rotating Shelter and the work of West Valley Community Services.
NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby commend and recognize
The Faith in Action Board
for their outstanding work, dedication, and for creating a stronger and better community for the City of Cupertino.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Thursday, May Twenty-Seventh, Two Thousand and Ten.
