HomeMy WebLinkAbout047 Silicon Valley JACL Proclamation - Word - 03.05.2010PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, on Friday, March Fifth, Two Thousand and Ten, the City of Cupertino wishes to recognize Silicon Valley Japanese American Citizens League; and WHEREAS, Silicon Valley JACL is presenting a Hinamatsuri Exhibit (Japanese Girl’s Day Doll Exhibit) on Saturday, March Sixth, Two Thousand and Ten; and WHEREAS, Hinamatsuri is a day to honor girls and wish them health and happiness; and WHEREAS, displays of ornamental dolls are placed on tiered platforms that can have as many as seven tiers with the top tier reserved for the Emperor and the Empress; and WHEREAS, the exhibit will feature doll sets on loan from bay area families as well as the Consul General of Japan's Office; and WHEREAS, the SVJACL chapter is affiliated with the oldest and largest Asian-American civil rights organization in the United States and their mission is to protect civil and human rights for all and the preservation of Japanese culture and heritage; and WHEREAS, the chapter’s vision is to explore the Japanese culture and heritage in fun and inviting ways, focus on professional leadership development, create intergenerational opportunities to build bonds and understanding, and foster a diverse membership network. NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby commend and recognize Silicon Valley Japanese American Citizens League for their outstanding service, dedication, and for creating a stronger and better community for the City of Cupertino.
