HomeMy WebLinkAbout047 Senior Center's 45th Anniversary Proclamation - Word - 03.10.2010PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, on Wednesday, March Seventeenth, Two Thousand and Ten, the City of Cupertino wishes to recognize the Cupertino Senior Center on the occasion of their 45th anniversary; and WHEREAS, in Nineteen Sixty-Five, the Cupertino Live Long and Like It Club #5, a senior citizens activity and social club, was taken under the wing of the City of Cupertino with a membership of about fifteen people; and WHEREAS, the City of Cupertino opened the Senior Drop-in Center located in the former Parks and Recreation Department building on the Memorial Park site in Nineteen Seventy-Four; and  WHEREAS, this small building was known as “The Little Blue House” and over two hundred senior members participated in activities and services during the first year the drop-in center opened; and WHEREAS, in Nineteen Eighty, the City of Cupertino built Cupertino Senior Center and the senior membership increased to seven hundred; and WHEREAS, by Nineteen Ninety-Eight, the Senior Center membership had grown to one thousand eight hundred members and the Cupertino Council approved a new Senior Center that opened in Two Thousand and One; and WHEREAS, today, the Cupertino Senior Center serves two thousand three hundred senior members for classes, services, volunteer opportunities, trips, and socials. NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby commend and recognize the Cupertino Senior Center and call upon the community to recognize the special contributions of the Senior Center participants, and the special efforts of the staff and volunteers who work every day to enhance the well-being of the seniors in our community. IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Wednesday, March Seventeenth, Two Thousand and Ten. ________________________ Kris Wang, Mayor
