HomeMy WebLinkAbout047 Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month Proclamation - Word - 10.11.2010PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, on Saturday, October Sixteenth, Two Thousand and Ten, the City of Cupertino wishes to recognize November, Two Thousand and Ten, as Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month in Cupertino; and WHEREAS, in Two Thousand and Ten, an estimated 43,140 people will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the United States and 36,800 will die from the disease; and WHEREAS, pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest cancers and is the fourth leading cause of cancer death in the United States; and WHEREAS, approximately 3,900 deaths occurred in California; and WHEREAS, there is no cure for pancreatic cancer and there have been no significant improvements in survival rates in the last forty years. NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby recognize November, Two Thousand and Ten as Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month in Cupertino and join communities across our nation to increase the awareness about pancreatic cancer and research into early detection, causes, and effective treatments. IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Saturday, October Sixteenth, Two Thousand and Ten. ________________________ Kris Wang, Mayor
