WHEREAS, on Thursday, May Twenty-Seventh, Two Thousand and Ten, the City of Cupertino wishes to recognize the Operation Awareness Planning Team; and
WHEREAS, the Operation Awareness Planning Team is one of the winners for the Cupertino Recognizes Extra Steps Taken (CREST) Award, which recognizes individuals and groups who have made
outstanding contributions to the City of Cupertino; and
WHEREAS, the Operation Awareness Planning Team completed the unprecedented task of developing a citywide earthquake exercise to test the abilities of our local volunteers (Cupertino
Amateur Radio Emergency Service, Medical Reserve Corps and Community Emergency Response Team) where they wanted to “touch" every home in Cupertino, consolidate and communicate information
to each other and the City Emergency Operations Center, and raise community awareness of their programs and earthquake safety procedures; and
WHEREAS, in the beginning of July, they held weekly planning meetings and worked with City staff to develop maps, teams, training and strategies to accomplish their task; and
WHEREAS, they engaged participation from Cupertino Amateur Radio Emergency Service, Medical Reserve Corps, Community Emergency Response Teams, Block Leaders, Homeowners Associations,
apartment complexes, scout troops, environmental services, service clubs and school groups to canvass neighborhoods and pass out safety information - over six hundred volunteers in
all; and
WHEREAS, they engaged local businesses, such as AMC Theater, Whole Foods, Target, and Ranch 99, to distribute information to the public.
NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby commend and recognize the
Operation Awareness Planning Team
for their outstanding work, dedication, and for creating a stronger and better community for the City of Cupertino.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Thursday, May Twenty-Seventh, Two Thousand and Ten.
