WHEREAS, on Sunday, March Twenty-First, Two Thousand and Ten, the City of Cupertino wishes to recognize Marsha Hovey; and
WHEREAS, Marsha was instrumental in the design and implementation of the Incident Reporter System, which is a system that creates a common operation map for disaster response; and
WHEREAS, employees and volunteers at various city facilities are now able to report directly to the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) with critical information regarding general building
status, injured people, and other incidents such as fires at nearby buildings through this system; and
WHEREAS, Marsha expanded emergency preparedness training in the city, because only twenty-six people were trained in the community when Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) was established
in Nineteen Ninety-Five, and, today, with training expanded to include the Personal Preparedness Workshop and the Kaleidoscope training for junior high and high school students, there
are now over two thousand two hundred adults and students trained in some capacity of emergency preparedness; and
WHEREAS, Marsha was instrumental in obtaining numerous Federal and State grants during her time at Cupertino, which totaled more than three hundred thousand dollars; and
WHEREAS, these grants have allowed the City to purchase supplies and expand our readiness capability during tough economic times and would not have been possible without Marsha’s determination.
NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby commend and recognize
Marsha Hovey
for her outstanding service, dedication, and for creating a stronger and better community for the City of Cupertino.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Sunday, March Twenty-First, Two Thousand and Ten.
