HomeMy WebLinkAbout047 League of Women Voters 90th Anniversary Proclamation - Word- 10.05.2010PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, on Saturday, October Ninth, Two Thousand and Ten, the City of Cupertino wishes to recognize the League of Women Voters (LWV) on the occasion of their 90th Anniversary; and WHEREAS, LWV of Cupertino is the organization where hands-on work to safeguard democracy leads to civic improvement; and WHEREAS, LWV is a non-partisan political organization, that has fought since Nineteen Twenty to improve our system of government and impact public policies through citizen education and advocacy; and WHEREAS, the LWV of Cupertino believes in representative government and in the individual liberties established in the Constitution of the United States and has always worked to promote the values and processes of representative government; and WHEREAS, LWV of Cupertino collaborates with other organizations to achieve mutual goals, increase civic participation, create lasting change in the community and to ‘Make Democracy Work’; and WHEREAS, the League, for ninety years, has held the public trust by respectfully bringing elected leaders and the public together through non-partisan, civil means and through thoughtfully advancing solutions; and WHEREAS, this community has benefited tremendously from the countless volunteer hours donated by League members over its ninety-year history of enhancing our democracy. NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby recognize the League of Women Voters (LWV) on their 90th anniversary and thank them for constantly striving to serve our community to make it a strong, safe, fair and a vibrant place to live. IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Saturday, October Ninth, Two Thousand and Ten. ________________________ Kris Wang, Mayor
