WHEREAS, on Friday, May Twenty-First, Two Thousand and Ten, the City of Cupertino wishes to recognize Joel Szabat; and
WHEREAS, Joel founded the International Leadership Foundation in California in the nineties; and
WHEREAS, he understands that helping Asian Pacific Americans (APAs) fully engage in America’s civic processes will inevitably enhance their position in American society; and
WHEREAS, in Two Thousand and Eight, Joel was named Deputy Assistant Secretary for Transportation Policy in the U.S. Department of Transportation, one of the highest career positions
in the federal government; and
WHEREAS, in February of Two Thousand and Nine, the Secretary of Transportation named Joel Szabat co-chair of the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) team.
NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby commend and recognize
Joel Szabat
for his outstanding work, dedication, and for creating a stronger and better community for the City of Cupertino.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Friday, May Twenty-First, Two Thousand and Ten.
