WHEREAS, on Tuesday, May Eighteenth, Two Thousand and Ten, the City of Cupertino wishes to recognize Don Burnett; and
WHEREAS, Don was elected to be on the Cupertino City Council on November Second, Nineteen Ninety-Three and again on November Fourth, Nineteen Ninety-Seven, and was also mayor from Nineteen
Ninety-Five to Nineteen Ninety-Six; and
WHEREAS, in the early nineties, Don helped form the first Bicycle Advisory Committee in Cupertino, which is now called Bicycle Pedestrian Commission (BPC); and
WHEREAS, he has been a board member of the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition; and
WHEREAS, Don is an unsurpassed bike advocate who was a key author of the City’s bicycle plan and pedestrian plan; and
WHEREAS, Don is responsible for making Cupertino a bicycle friendly community; and
WHEREAS, Don has been vice chair on the Water District Independent Monitoring Committee on Measure B , Clean SAFE Creek, a measure passed by voters in Two Thousand to protect local streams;
and
WHEREAS, he is also an advocate for affordable housing and for fair treatment for tenants.
NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby commend and recognize
Don Burnett
for his outstanding work, the breadth of which, has only been superseded by the profound changes for the better that he has made possible.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Tuesday, May Eighteenth, Two Thousand and Ten.
