WHEREAS, on Thursday, May Twenty-Seventh, Two Thousand and Ten, the City of Cupertino wishes to recognize Catherine Chen; and
WHEREAS, Catherine Chen is one of the winners for the Cupertino Recognizes Extra Steps Taken (CREST) Award, which recognizes individuals and groups who have made outstanding contributions
to the City of Cupertino; and
WHEREAS, in Two Thousand and One, she took over a State Farm Insurance Agency, and turned the business into a very recognizable and profitable agency; and
WHEREAS, Catherine joined the Cupertino Chamber of Commerce in Two Thousand and One with the idea of making a difference in her community; and
WHEREAS, she also became a member of the Asian American Business Council (AABC) in Two Thousand and Two and served as President in Two Thousand and Four to Two Thousand and Five, putting
together the Chinese Lunar New Year and the Moon Festival Luncheons, two Business Socials, and a very successful educational seminar; and
WHEREAS, in Two Thousand and Six, Catherine joined Quota International of Cupertino, a service group in fourteen countries around the globe who raise money for the deaf and the hearing
impaired, as well as for disadvantaged and abused women and children; and
WHEREAS, Catherine serves as Vice-Chair of the Mandarin Business Association (MBA) and she also gives both her time and resources to The Organization of Special Needs Families.
NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby commend and recognize
Catherine Chen
for her outstanding work, dedication, and for creating a stronger and better community for the City of Cupertino.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Thursday, May Twenty-Seventh, Two Thousand and Ten.
