WHEREAS, on Tuesday, April Sixth, Two Thousand and Ten, the City of Cupertino wishes to recognize Barbara Rogers; and
WHEREAS, Barbara Rogers is a founding member of the Cupertino Library Foundation and is retiring after sixteen years; and
WHEREAS, Barbara Rogers was Cupertino's first female Mayor and served as Mayor three times and served as a council member for three terms; and
WHEREAS, in Nineteen Eighty-Five, Barbara helped found Quota International's Cupertino Chapter, serving as its president several times and is still a very active member of the chapter;
and
WHEREAS, she also served as the president of Women in Municipal Government of the National League of Cities, and chairman of the Public Safety Commission for the League of California
Cities; and
WHEREAS, as a Cupertino Public Safety Committee member, she inaugurated home safety audits and conducted seminars for women's safety; and
WHEREAS, she also chaired Leadership Cupertino, was a Board member of the Euphrat Museum of Art Board for De Anza College, and was a past president of the Sunnyvale-Cupertino Branch
of the American Association of University Women; and
WHEREAS, Barbara also chaired the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Advisory Committee, San Jose Crime Stoppers, and the Vietnamese Cultural and Social Council in San Jose; and
WHEREAS, Cogswell Polytechnic College, where Barbara chaired the Board of Trustees, has honored her with a scholarship in her name for women engineers.
NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby commend and recognize
Barbara Rogers
for her outstanding work, dedication, and for creating a stronger and better community for the City of Cupertino.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Tuesday, April Sixth, Two Thousand and Ten.
