HomeMy WebLinkAbout047 64th Anniversary of the Italian Republic Proclamation - Word - 05.27.2010PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, on Thursday, June Third, Two Thousand and Ten, the City of Cupertino wishes to recognize the 64th Anniversary of the Italian Republic; and WHEREAS, the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors and the Italian American Heritage Foundation (IAHF) will co-sponsor a celebration of the Festa della Republica Italiana to commemorate the anniversary; and WHEREAS, Italian Americans have become an important and vibrant element of Santa Clara County, contributing immensely to the advancement of their community and State in the areas of art, music, science, education and business; and WHEREAS, Italian Americans commemorate June Second as the day when Italians faced the decision over sixty years ago to become a kingdom or a republic, and over two days, June Second and Third, Nineteen Forty-Six, the citizens of Italy voted to form a republic; and WHEREAS, Italian Americans raise side by side the American and Italian flags, which is a tradition introduced to Santa Clara County in Nineteen Fifty by the late Domenic Cirincione, and then continued through the efforts of the Board of Supervisors and the Italian American Heritage Foundation; and WHEREAS, Italian Americans and all Santa Clara County residents are urged to recognize and participate in activities to celebrate this important historical and cultural event. NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby recognize the celebration of the 64th Anniversary of the Italian Republic and urge all citizens to celebrate the cultural diversity that enriches our entire community.
