WHEREAS, on Sunday, October Ninth, Two Thousand and Eleven, the City of
Cupertino wishes to recognize Double Tenth National Day; and
WHEREAS, Double Tenth National Day marks this milestone in China's political
development, which ultimately ended two thousand years of imperial rule in China
and led to the establishment of a democratic and nationalist Republic of China; and
WHEREAS, Double Tenth National Day pays tribute to Taiwan's notable
achievements, particularly its democratic development, which is reflected in its
constitutional rule, popular elections and democratic decision -making process; and
WHEREAS, Double Tenth National Day is observed by Taiwanese people both in
Taiwan and across the world with festivities that include parades, folk performances
and fireworks displays; and
WHEREAS, everyone will celebrate and promote understanding, friendship, and
appreciation of the culture, tradition, and contributions of Chinese Americans to our
society.
NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do
hereby recognize October Tenth, Two Thousand and Eleven as
Double Tenth National Day
in Cupertino, an event that celebrates a milestone in China's political development
and new chapter in the history of the Chinese people.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City
of Cupertino to be affixed this Sunday, October Ninth, Two Thousand and Eleven.
