WHEREAS, on Sunday, October Thirtieth, Two Thousand and Eleven, the City of
Cupertino wishes to recognize the Council on American -Islamic Relations- San
Francisco Bay Area (CAIR-SFBA); and
WHEREAS, CAIR-SFBA is having an Annual Banquet to celebrate seventeen years
of service, upholding civil rights and promoting peace and justice for all; and
WHEREAS, the event is the largest annual event for CAIR-SFBA and is attended
by leaders and representative of more than twenty-five Islamic Centers across the
Bay Area; and
WHEREAS, this year's theme is "Making Democracy Work"; and
WHEREAS, there are approximately seven million Muslims in the United States,
with an estimated two hundred fifty thousand living in the Greater Bay Area.
NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do
hereby commend and recognize the
Council on American -Islamic
Relations- San Francisco Bay Area
and thank all the participants for their hard work and encourage residents to join
in on this wonderful community event.
