WHEREAS, on Tuesday, August Twenty-Third, Two Thousand and Eleven, the City of Cupertino wishes to recognize Susmita Gongulee Thomas, outgoing Consul General of India in San Francisco;
and
WHEREAS, Susmita Gongulee Thomas joined the Indian Foreign Service in Nineteen Seventy-Six; and
WHEREAS, as a professional diplomat, she has served in countries such as Spain, Japan, and at Washington DC from Nineteen Ninety to Nineteen Ninety-Three as the political counselor and
subsequently served as the India’s Ambassador to Ivory Coast, Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia; and
WHEREAS, as the Indian Ambassador to Chile from Two Thousand and Four to Two Thousand and Eight, she increased bilateral trade from two hundred million dollars to two point five billion
dollars and successfully managed two Presidential visits to and from India; and
WHEREAS, she was awarded an honorary doctoral degree from University of Santo Tomas in Santiago for her work with Chile and was also recognized as one of the top Project Management Women
Experts by the Project Management Institute in the U.S.; and
WHEREAS, as Consul General, her area of work covers the States of Alaska, Hawaii, New Mexico, Arizona, Idaho, Oregon, California, Utah, Colorado, Washington, Montana, Guam, Wyoming and
Nebraska; and
WHEREAS, she has been the Consul General in San Francisco since Two Thousand and Eight and is leaving in September Two Thousand and Eleven on her new posting as the Indian Ambassador
to Turkey.
NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby commend and recognize
Susmita Gongulee Thomas
and thank her for her outstanding work and wish her the very best in all her future endeavors.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Tuesday, August Twenty-Third, Two Thousand and Eleven.
