HomeMy WebLinkAbout047 First 5 Santa Clara County Proclamation - Word - 01.03.2011PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, on Tuesday, January Fourth, Two Thousand and Eleven, the City of Cupertino wishes to recognize First 5 Santa Clara County; and WHEREAS, the first five years of life establishes the foundation for the future success of a child and his or her ability to reach their full potential; and WHEREAS, First 5 California and First 5 Commissions were established in each county in Nineteen Ninety-Eight by the voters of California through Proposition 10, a tax on tobacco products, to provide funding for programs that focus on a child’s early development in the areas of health, education and safety; and WHEREAS, First 5 Santa Clara County invests millions of dollars each year to support local nonprofit and governmental partners providing critical services such as children's health insurance, oral health care, preschool and kindergarten readiness, early literacy, parenting support, screening for developmental delays, mental health services for children, court services for families with young children, therapeutic services for children suffering abuse, and training for early childhood professionals; and WHEREAS, First 5 Santa Clara County, through its partners, Community Health Awareness Council and Jewish Family & Children's Services, provides children and families in Cupertino with vital services that foster the healthy development of children age zero through five and lay the groundwork for the successful future of our community. NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby commend and recognize First 5 Santa Clara County for their hard work, dedication, and for creating a stronger and better community for the City of Cupertino. IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Tuesday, January Fourth, Two Thousand and Eleven. ________________________ Gilbert Wong, Mayor
