HomeMy WebLinkAbout047 Destination Imagination-Smarty Six Proclamation - Word - 04.26.2011PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, on Tuesday, May Third, Two Thousand and Eleven, the City of Cupertino wishes to recognize the Smarty Six; and WHEREAS, Destination Imagination is a non-profit organization that provides educational programs for students to learn and experience creativity, teamwork and problem solving; and WHEREAS, the Smarty Six is a group comprised of five 3rd graders and one second grader from Regnart School; and WHEREAS, among the six different challenges, the Smarty Six, chose a technical challenge where they built an equipment called the “Super Saver” to move various materials to and from a 6ft. tower; and WHEREAS, they also presented a sales promotion for their equipment that described how it solves an infrastructure problem and won 1st place in the Silicon Valley Region Tournament for their challenge, Challenge A:  unidentified moving object, at the elementary level; and WHEREAS, they were also honored with the DaVinci Award, which is given out for having a unique approach to a solution, for risk taking, and/or for outstanding creativity, not skill or talent; and WHEREAS, the Smarty Six took 2nd place in their division at the State Tournament in Oakhurst, CA. NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby commend and recognize the Smarty Six for their outstanding work, dedication, and for creating a stronger and better community for the City of Cupertino.
