WHEREAS, on Saturday, September Twenty-Fourth, Two Thousand and Eleven, the City of Cupertino wishes to recognize David Denny as Cupertino’s first Poet Laureate; and
WHEREAS, his charge is to stimulate cultural and literacy awareness in Cupertino, introduce youth and adults to the personal and community benefits of poetry both as personal expression
and as reflective of our history and culture, reveal, recognize and engage literary talent residing in the community and promote our Library as the cultural center of Cupertino; and
WHEREAS, since Nineteen Eighty-Six, Mr. Denny has taught various literature, writing, drama and poetry courses in the English Department of De Anza College; and
WHEREAS, he has been published in over fifteen literary journals and edits the Bottomfish magazine published by De Anza College; and
WHEREAS, he is about to publish his next poetry book, Plebian on the Front Porch; and
WHEREAS, his own poetry reveals a great love for Cupertino, its landscape and landmarks; and
WHEREAS, he is extremely good engendering enthusiasm for writing in people of diverse ethnic backgrounds and has already proposed several community poetry reading and writing projects.
NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby commend and recognize the
David Denny
for his hard work, dedication, and for creating a better community for the people of Cupertino.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Saturday, September Twenty-Fourth, Two Thousand and Eleven.
