HomeMy WebLinkAbout047 Canada Day 2011 Proclamation - Word - 06.27.2011PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, on Thursday, June Thirtieth, Two Thousand and Eleven, the City of Cupertino wishes to recognize Canada Day on the occasion of the Canadian Flag Raising Ceremony held at San Jose City Hall; and WHEREAS, Canada Day is the national day of Canada, a federal statutory holiday celebrating the anniversary of the July First, Eighteen Sixty-Seven, enactment of the British North America Act, which united three British colonies into a single country, called Canada, within the British Empire; and WHEREAS, most communities across the country will host organized celebrations for Canada Day, usually outdoor public events, such as parades, carnivals, festivals, barbecues, air and maritime shows, fireworks, and free musical concerts; and WHEREAS, the Canada Day holiday is akin to the United States July Fourth celebration. NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby recognize Canada Day and encourage residents to promote friendship and cultural understanding with citizens from Canada as they celebrate Canada Day. IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Thursday, June Thirtieth, Two Thousand and Eleven. ________________________ Gilbert Wong, Mayor
