HomeMy WebLinkAbout047 -Eagle Court of Honor Proclamation - Word - 08.01.2011PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, on Sunday, August Twenty-Eighth, Two Thousand and Eleven, the City of Cupertino wishes to recognize Aaron James Gee, a Scout from Boy Scout Troop 30, for achieving Eagle, the highest rank in Boy Scouts; and WHEREAS, Aaron's Eagle project involved planning and building a retaining wall for Ventana School in Los Altos; and WHEREAS, before the project, a large section of the preschool's nature area was fenced off to prevent further soil erosion from a slope where a mature live oak tree was growing; and WHEREAS, Aaron led twelve adults and sixteen youth to construct a twenty-seven foot wide and three foot high wall made of redwood boards and posts; and WHEREAS, a drainage system was also added behind the wall to remove excess water from the soil when it rains, reducing pressure on the wall and helping the tree roots to air out; and WHEREAS, the project took four hundred and three person-hours during fifteen workdays with material costs totaling one thousand and one hundred eighty-six dollars; and WHEREAS, the new wall will prevent soil erosion and preserve the health of the large oak tree and, in addition, the preschool teachers and children can now enjoy full use of the school's nature area. NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby commend and recognize Aaron James Gee and congratulate him for his outstanding work and wish him the very best in all his future endeavors.
