HomeMy WebLinkAbout047 Taiwanese Cultural Day 2013 Proclamation - Word - 04.22.2013PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the 20th Annual Taiwanese American Cultural Festival sponsored by the Taiwanese American Federation of Northern California and Taiwanese American Professionals will be held on Saturday, May Eleventh, Two Thousand and Thirteen from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Union Square in San Francisco, California; and WHEREAS, since 2005, the Taiwanese American Federation of Northern California has held a cultural festival at Union Square to introduce Taiwanese culture to local residents; and WHEREAS, since 1999, the second week of May has traditionally been celebrated as Taiwanese American Heritage Week when then President Bill Clinton designated a week of celebrating Taiwanese American culture throughout the United States; and WHEREAS, last year, over 8,000 visitors attended the festival including elected officials and distinguished guests; and WHEREAS, the Taiwanese American Cultural Festival will consist of unique cultural performances, food and fun. This year, performers will be coming directly from Taiwan and will be showcasing unique stunts and acrobatics, including the use of the Taiwanese yo-yo; and WHEREAS, the Taiwanese American Federation of Northern California promotes an appreciation and understanding of the culture and educational exchange between the U.S. and Taiwan, and the Taiwanese American Professionals enhances the Taiwanese American community by networking individuals interested in professional and career development, while emphasizing the preservation of Taiwanese American identity. NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby acknowledge May Eleventh, Two Thousand and Thirteen as Taiwanese Cultural Day and urge all citizens to celebrate the cultural diversity that enriches our entire community.
