WHEREAS, Silicon Valley FACES a non-profit founded in 1965 as a regional office of the National Conference of Christians and Jews, will hold its annual National Crime Victims'
Rights Week beginning April Twenty-First through April Twenty-Seventh, Two Thousand and Thirteen; and
WHEREAS, Silicon Valley FACES builds a community free of bias, bigotry and violence by transforming youth into community builders and empower crime victims to thrive; and
WHEREAS, the goal of Silicon Valley FACES’ Victim Witness Assistance Program is to provide needed services for victims and witnesses of violent crime and to encourage their cooperation
in the investigation of the case and prosecution of the offender; and
WHEREAS, the staff and trained volunteers provide direct assistance, peer counseling, information and referral services to over 8,000 victims and witnesses each year; and
WHEREAS, the Victim Witness Assistance Program was established in 1975 and is funded by the State of California from penalty assessments collected from convicted offenders; and
NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby commend, recognize, and declare April Twenty-Fourth to be
National Crime Victims' Rights Week
and recognize the significant accomplishments of FACES/Victim Witness Assistance Program in honor of National Crime Victims' Rights Week.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Tuesday, April Sixteenth, Two Thousand and Thirteen.
