WHEREAS, the City of Cupertino wishes to recognize the accomplishments of Marina Food in support of the City’s success in the EPA sponsored Food Recovery Challenge; and
WHEREAS, the Food Recovery Challenge has helped Marina Food to donate surplus produce to community food organizations twice a week; and
WHEREAS, Marina Food employees also separate food waste for Recology to collect and compost at Recology’s South Bay Organics facility in Gilroy; and
WHEREAS, through its partnership with the City in food recovery, Marina Food is diverting 520 tons of food waste per year from landfills into the City’s compost program; and
WHEREAS, Cupertino recognizes Marina Food’s restaurant manager for purchasing bagasse meal trays, as an alternative to foam food ware and for adding compost food waste bins to Marina
Food’s restaurant area for customers; and
WHEREAS, Marina Food’s commitment to modernize and customize its operations represents another step towards a cleaner, smarter and healthier Cupertino.
NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby commend the management and staff at
Marina Food
for embracing the City’s composting and recycling goals to improve the sustainability of the Cupertino community.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Tuesday, December Seventeenth, Two Thousand and Thirteen.
