HomeMy WebLinkAbout047 David Denny-outgoing 2013 Proclamation - Word - 10.28.2013PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, on Sunday, November Tenth, Two Thousand and Thirteen, the City of Cupertino wishes to recognize and thank David Denny as his term as Cupertino’s first Poet Laureate comes to an end; and WHEREAS, his charge was to stimulate cultural and literacy awareness in Cupertino, introduce youth and adults to the personal and community benefits of poetry both as personal expression and as reflective of our history and culture and to reveal, recognize and engage literary talent residing in the community; and WHEREAS, through a variety of public events for youth, teens and adults like his Citywide poetry contest, he brought people together, some new to the art of poetry and some seasoned writers to share and celebrate creativity; and WHEREAS, with events like his Coffeehouse Poetry Readings he has inspired others with series like his “Winter Light” production; and WHEREAS, with the mission to get people in the community involved and encourage them to express themselves, David has introduced poetry at Cultural Celebrations and events around Cupertino; and WHEREAS, David has taught Introduction to Poetry 101 to Cupertino residents inspiring even the most novice of poets; and WHEREAS, collaborating with fellow local poet laureates, David even published a poetry book. NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby commend and recognize David Denny for his hard work, dedication, and for creating a better community for the people of Cupertino. IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Sunday, November Tenth, Two Thousand and Thirteen. Orrin Mahoney, Mayor
