HomeMy WebLinkAbout047 Blasing Proclamation - Word - 01.24.2014 PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the City of Cupertino wishes to acknowledge the “Last Day of Work” of Cupertino native, Elaine Criger Blasing, at an event that celebrates the culmination of many accomplishments; and WHEREAS, from the very beginning, Elaine wove herself into the fabric of Cupertino life, attending local schools including Cupertino High School where she demonstrated an early aptitude for business studies and juvenile delinquency, including cutting band, and stealing automotive hood ornaments; and WHEREAS, Elaine subsequently worked at P.J. Mulligan’s, a local Cupertino bar and dance club where she mastered “Frogger”, and also the art of having a good time generally. Following these accomplishments, Elaine finished her undergraduate and graduate degrees with a dual major in dance-clubbing and business; and WHEREAS, Elaine has played an important role in maintaining the security of our community and nation by working for several years at Argo Systems where she helped to insure that launch tubes for the nation’s nuclear deterrent were cost-effectively built to spec. The Soviet Union was never the same and soon collapsed; and WHEREAS, turning her sights to high tech, Elaine began working at Apple. Bringing to bear her now considerable business, financial and arithmetic acumen, Elaine facilitated Apple’s incredible success and rise to preeminence, making both the company and her home town synonymous with innovation and excellence. May the same be said of Elaine. NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Cupertino, do hereby acknowledge October 18, 2013 as Elaine Blasing Day throughout Cupertino, and recognize and congratulate Elaine for her deep passion, forthright honesty and steadfast friendship with the many people with which she has shared her life so far. Be it further recognized that following her “Last Day of Work,” it is not expected that “leisure time” will ever be the same. IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Friday, October 18, 2013. __________________________________ Orrin Mahoney, Mayor
